Kirkby Moss Model Flying Club has been in existance since 1992. We are a small but friendly club that specialises in building and flying radio-controlled model aircraft. KMMFC is one of 100’s of model clubs in the United Kingdom, represented by the British Model Flying Association (BMFA 0432). The majority of model flying clubs are open to the general public. By joining your local club you get access to a wealth of knowledge, meet like-minded people who are passionate about model flying, and are provided with a location where you can fly your aircraft safely.
Due to the recent changes in aviation law, it is important to know that all model aircraft over 250 grams must be registered with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the pilot (you) must pass a theory test before flying your aircraft outdoors. This law was originally implemented to regulate the owning and flying of drone aircraft, but covers all unmanned model aircraft. The law hasn’t been created to deter new flyers – but to educate people about safe flying. By joining your local model club, you will be helped and guided on these matters.
If you are presently looking for a flying club then please inquire. We are open to new and experienced at the hobby. The club supports the following disciplines:
- Fixed Wing (aeroplanes)
- Rotary Wing (helicopters)
The club is located on a 3 acre site based in the Knowsley farmland area (closest postcode L33 3AE). Club facilities include:
- Flying field (2.5 acres)
- Club Hut
- Car Parking
If your are specifically interested in learning to fly fixed or rotary aircraft, then you’ve come to the right place! Kirkby Moss MFC provides excellent novice pilot training. This is free-of-charge, but is operated on a voluntary basis by club instructors.
